Custom Fields comes with a set of 15 different field types to choose from.
Go directly to one of the field types:
Here’s a brief explanation on all of them and some examples on how you could use them:
Text Types
Text
A single-line text field for max. 250 characters. This field is just a plain text field, which you can use for any short amount of text. It works and looks much like the Title field in the Edit Music screen.
![]()
Text Area
A multi-line text box to enter a lot of text. It will look the same as (for example) the Notes field on the Personal tab in the Edit Music screen. If you want to create like a My Review field, this is the field type you should use!
*The Text Types fields can also be searched on in your own collection, using the search box top right in your main screen.
Note that you can not folder on these fields though.
Toggles
Toggle
The toggle field is gives you an easy “Yes” or “No” toggle in the Edit Music screen.
It works and looks like the existing Is Live field. You could for example use a toggle to mark an album as Sealed: Yes/No
*Before creating a lot of toggles, consider the following: If you want to make a group of toggles that are mutually exclusive, meaning only one will ever be selected at the same time, a Pick List is the better choice, because it will show as one field, where you can just pick one of the values. Or if you want to make a group of toggles that will always have like 2 or 3 selected, but it’s about the same thing, then a Multi-Value Pick List is better, as it will show as one field, where you can just check off different of the options!
Number Types
Number
A simple number field where you can enter (whole) numbers.
Decimal
Same as the number field, but this one allows 2 decimals.
Currency
A simple monetary value field. You could for instance create a Shipping Cost field here! This field also comes with a Storage Type dropdown to choose if you want a value field with a whole number, or with 2 decimals. It also comes with a currency dropdown to choose any of the available currencies we have.
Note that there are currently no “totals” on the custom fields, but that is on our ideas list.
Percentage
A number type field that shows as a percentage. Use the Storage Type dropdown to choose if you want it as a whole number or with 2 decimals.
Weight
A light (or heavy) field, to put in a weight. Use the Storage Type dropdown to choose between a whole number or with 2 decimals. Then pick a measurement unit with the Unit dropdown: Grams, Kilograms, Pounds or Ounces.
Size
Holds any size! Choose if you want it as a whole number or with 2 decimals with the Storage Type dropdown. After that, pick the measurement unit from the Unit dropdown: Millimeters, Centimeters and Inches are available.
Selector Types
Pick List
A very useful “Pick one value out from this list” field with a dropdown where you can pick 1 single value for the music you’re editing. Looks exactly like the Location that you already have in your Edit Music screen.
This field comes with its own manageable pick list to add/edit/merge/remove in, and you can folder on this field too.
You could for instance use this field to create a Gifted to field, or Recommended by field!
Multi-Value Pick List
This fields works like your current Tags field, and is likely the one you’ll use the most! It comes with its own manageable pick list to add/edit/merge/remove in, and you can folder on this field too. It is probably one of the most useful field of them all.
An example for which you could use this field would be Awards or Prizes (since albums can win multiple, so you could pick more). Another example could be if you want to add one or more persons (like an extra credit-role or something) to an album, this field does it all.
You will notice you have a couple of dropdowns with extra options for this field. Here’s what they mean:
Control Type controls what the field looks and how this field behaves/works in the Edit Music screen:
Check List
This control will show as a list of checkboxes you can tick one or multiple.
Name List
Pick or enter multiple names of things.
Person List
Pick or enter multiple actual person names (with first/last names).
Tag List
This control in the edit screen looks exactly like the existing tags field, you can pick from existing items here, or type them in and hit enter to add them.
The dropdown Display Type controls what the field looks like in your Details Panel in the main screen (when looking at all the details of an album). Choose between:
- Line Break (each picked item appears on its own line in details)
- Separator (all picked items show together with a separator between them: Item 1 | Item 2 | Item 3
A field that has a maximum of 4 fixed values. It looks like the existing RPM field that you already have in your edit screen. If you want to create a field that has a very limited (max. 4) fixed set of values, this is is the one you need.
For example you could create a Season field with the values: Winter, Summer, Autumn, Spring. Since there will never be more seasons, it fits perfectly on a Fixed Button Bar.
*When creating this field you are creating your maximum of 4 fixed values at the same time. If you think you will need to modify these values in the future, we suggest to use a different Selector Type field, like Pick List.
Fixed List
This field can contain a maximum of 20 fixed values. So it’s much like the Fixed Button Bar, but it will show up as a dropdown field in the edit screen, like the current Collection Status field.
An example to use this field would be if you have a set amount of values you wish to choose from, and don’t want to add more values later. Like a field called Month with values Jan, Feb, Mar…, etc.
*When creating this field you are creating your maximum of 20 fixed values at the same time. If you think you will need to modify these values in the future, we suggest to use a different Selector Type field, like Pick List.
Date and Duration
Date
A simple date field, like the existing Purchase Date field. It can hold a full or partial date, and it comes with a date picker.
Duration
This one is for you if you want to track hours/minutes spent on an album. It will show up in your Edit Music screen as 2 boxes (hours : minutes).
*You can change how time fields are displayed in your Details Panel using the menu top left, then click Settings. Look for Display format for time fields to change how time is displayed.
